Sermon Notes
Why is Baptism so important?
It is like a Wedding/Holy Matrimony.
Baptism is the ring on the finger.
Romans 6: 1-4 - What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
3 Part Image:
1 - Baptized into his death
2 - Buried therefore with him in baptism
3 - Raised just as Christ was raised from the dead …
we too might walk in newness of life
The First Apostolic Exhortation of Romans -
Romans 6:11 - So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Consider - logizomai - to keep a mental record of events for the sake of some future action, to bear in mind. Accounting term - count every last penny,
Consider myself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Consider, think about this.
Context - State vs Status.
Emotional State based on circumstances vs.
Eternal Status based on the Truth of the Gospel.
State - the particular condition that someone is in at a specific time; mental/emotional/physical. (Google/www.merrian-webster.com)
Status - the position/standing/station of someone in relation to others; social, professional, national. (Google/www.merrian-webster.com)
Wey, I’ve never thought like that before. Exactly!
Apply - New Consideration, New Thoughts
So when I am tempted, I can now re-consider!
