Intro - Job Descriptions.
What is the Job Description of Satan? Of our Savior?
John 10:10 - the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly.
How does Jesus bring about Forgiveness, Healing?
By Substitutionary Sacrifice
John 10:11 - I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
“Substitution is not a metaphor for what God did: it is what he actually did. God actually did chose to put himself in a place where we should be, to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. (The God I Don’t Understand; Reflections on Tough Questions of Faith by Christopher JH Wright, p.125)
I Peter 2:24- 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Sin - Forgiveness of Sin - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree
Colossians 2:13 - And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.
Hebrews 9:26 - But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Sickness - Healing - By his wounds you have been healed.
Molops - wound, cut, laceration, tear, slash.
Matthew 27:26 - Then Pontus Pilate released Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.
How do we appropriate His Source of Forgiveness and Healing?
Learn About It - What is the Source of my Forgiveness? His Cross. What is the Source of my Healing? His Scourging. How do I know this? Because salvation is only by His Substitutionary Sacrifice.
Repent - Stop thinking and speaking as if everything depends on me and begin thinking and speaking as if everything depends on Him.
