The Magnificat, the Song of Mary.
1. God’s Grace for Mary Personally -
Luke 1:46-49 - “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Cousin Elizabeth is very trinitarian! And in response Mary begins to sing! It's like a musical but in real life.
2. God’s Grace for Us Corporately -
Luke 1:50-55 -50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
The Four Blocks of God’s Grace -
Beauty, Brains, Bucks and Brawn.
Who receives God’s Grace? The humble and hungry
Luke 1:52-53 - 52 he has … exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
What was the point? Luke 1:49 - for he who is mighty has done great things for me
Mary has been in-dwelt by God in the person of Jesus.
The Gospel - the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Believers are in-dwelt by God in the person of the Holy Spirit.
What does my soul magnify? What does my spirit rejoice in?
Magnifies - megalyno - to praise the greatness of
Rejoices - agalliao - to experience a state of great joy and gladness.
Mary is Blessed. Why? Because she has Jesus.
