Matthew 5:13-20 Sermon Notes
Intro - Righteousness
Matthew 5:20 - For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Story of Joseph, Step Father of Jesus, as a Righteous man.
II Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God.
He transfers us, As Believers, from the Old Covenant of Law into the New Covenant of Grace.
Romans 3:20 - For by works of the law no human being will be justified (made Righteous) in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Story of Monday Morning Bible Study - What is the healthy place of the Law in the life of the Believer?
When we, as Believers, face a situation, a conflict, a difficult circumstance instead of going to The Law and deciding who is right and who is wrong,
Instead
We pray and ask How does Jesus, His Gospel, His Cross and Resurrection, His gift of Righteousness, the power of His Holy Spirit, the Fellowship in His Church, make a difference in situation, conflict, difficult circumstance?
As Believers who have received the gift of His Righteousness, we are now under the New Covenant of Grace, we no longer live under the Law.
Romans 6:14 - For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Hebrews 12:1-2 - 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Galatians 2:14 - But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel.
Ex - What is my dream for my Children, Grandchildren? Is it that they live a moral/law abiding life in this world or an eternal life with Jesus in heaven?
Do I dream and pray for them to be Moral/ Law Abiding?
Or to be Friends of Jesus?
