Intro - The Holy Spirit
What does the Holy Spirit do? Glorify Jesus.
John 16:14 - He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Three Ways that the Holy Spirit Glorifies Jesus:
Sin, Righteousness, Judgement
John 16:8-11 - 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
1. Judgement - because the ruler of this world is judged.
“By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet.” (2019 BCP, p.133)
2. Sin - because they do not believe in me;
The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God.
3. Righteousness - because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
The Resurrection and the Ascension is the endorsement, the stamp of approval, over the substitutionary sacrifice of His Cross.
Who is seated at the right hand of the king? The conquering General of the Army or the Prime Minister. The right hand of the king is the point from which executive power is administered in the kingdom.
I Peter 3:22 - who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
What does His Righteousness mean for us as Believers? We, as Believers, having received the Righteousness of God, are invited into the throne room of heaven.
II Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
“As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.” (2019 BCP, p.133)
His Righteousness means we, as Believers, are invited into the throne room of heaven and to come before His Throne of Grace.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus, who He is and what He has done: Satan is judged, sinners are becoming believers and the earned righteousness of Jesus Christ, the Conquering General, is given to Believers who are invited into the Throne Room of Heaven.
