 Romans 8:28 - We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

Know - Oida - to understand, to apprehend, to recognize. The same word is used to speak of the Holy Spirit’s role in helping the Believer “know”

 Ephesians 1:18 -  having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints

Five Unshakable Convictions that Believers Know:

 1. God works - in our lives, on our behalf.

 works - synergeo - to work with, working together. So God our Father is at work in our lives, for our lives.     

 What is His work? Resurrection!

 2. For good - for His people. God Himself is wholly good and his works are expressions of his goodness and to advance the good of His people.

 What do Americans usually think of as good? But what is the Believer’s highest good?    

 Vs. 29 - to be conformed to the image of his Son,

 3. in everything - all things, including the sufferings(vs.17) and the groaning(vs.23). All that is negative is made to have a positive purpose. Nothing is beyond the overruling, overriding reach of His sovereign purpose.

  What good will God bring out of this?

 4. those who love him - this is not superficial optimism but rather our Father’s purpose is our completed salvation; and one of the ways we know of salvation is being completed is … We love our Heavenly Father, our Savior JC, and the Holy Spirit. We love God. And loving God is the first and great commandment.

 5. who are called according to his purpose - His historic eternal purpose includes an effectual call.   

 The General Call may or may not be responded to, But 

 The Effectual Call causes an effect, 

  it is effective in causing a response.
