Context - Status vs. State
The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God.
He changes my status -
I am now an Adopted Son or Daughter, a Child of God.
How do we know? The Witness of the Spirit and Suffering
1. Suffering - suffer with him
Romans 8:17 - and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Two Kinds of Suffering
General Suffering - Pain - All Human Beings in the World
Christian Suffering - Persecution - All Believers/Children of God
Persecution/Pressure when we
stand against the World, the Flesh and the Devil.
2. The Witness of the Spirit - bears witness with our spirit
Romans 8:16 - The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God

When does this Witness occur?
When we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:15 - For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
The call for the Believer to Confess my Faith, to Profess with my lips what I believe in my heart then comes the Witness of the Spirit.
